Run Auckland is a series of 6 running events hosted at purpose picked locations to offer all types of runners a challenge. Starting with five 10km/5km/Kids Dash events staggered across Auckland, the Run Auckland Event Series finishes with the 6th final event with a Half Marathon/10km/5km/Kids Dash at Metro Park, Millwater.

Discounted series passes are available for participants who wish to complete all the events, or alternatively singular event passes are also available.

How do I enter?

I have entered, what do I do next?

Once you have Entered then pick your date and time before the series starts to pick up your race pack. Dates will be arranged at a number of locations for pre-race pick-ups leading up to the first event.

You can also collect your Race Number and Timing Responder on the morning of your specific race up until 15 minutes before the start of the race. Please arrive in plenty of time if you wish to do this to avoid any stress in the lead up to your event.

Do I need to Check In before each race?

No, Full Series Entrants keep the same Race Number and Timing Responder for the Entire Series so just need to turn up in time for the Race Safety Briefing.

Do I keep the same Timing Responder for all the races?

If you are a Full Series Entrant YES, you keep the same Timing Responder for the entire Series.
If you are a Single Race Entrant NO, you will be issued with a Timing Responder that can then be returned at the end of your event.

Can I change my T-Shirt size?

Sorry but NO we are unable to change any T-Shirt sizes, as these are a special order which needs to be placed months in advance.

When will results be online?

Provisional Results (subject to change after checking) will be published ASAP after the race, usually mid afternoon Sunday. Updated Results will be published a week later.

What should I do if I think there is a problem with my result?

If you think there is a problem with your result, you can click on your name in the provisional results and click ‘problem with this result’. This will take you to an online form where you can report an issue. If your Time is not in the Provisional Results please email david@runnz.co.nz within 3 working days of the race, stating your Name, Race Number, Distance, Approximate Finish Time on the Race Clock at the Finish and any other details you can remember like people you finished near, etc.

Can I do a mixture of some 5km and some 10km distances?

YES, a lot of participants start out by doing some 5km races and near the end of the Series build up to the 10km distance or Half Marathon. The distance at each race is entirely up to you and you are more than welcome to change distances even after you enter (see below for details).

Can I change my distance?

YES, Distances can be changed on Race Day up until 20 minutes before Race Start. Just let the team at the Registration Tent know. Please note, this change will affect your Series Points and there is no guarantee your time will appear in the Provisional Results.

I can’t make one of the races, can some else run for me?

Single Race entries are Non Transferrable for Series Entrants. As we have a points system it is unfair on other participants competing for the Series Age Group awards. We also need to know exactly who is on course in case of medical emergency.

Can I get a refund on some or all of the races I don’t do?

How does the Series Points and Trophies for the series work?

  • Age Group – this is your age from the date of the first event at Remuera on the 30th May
  • Major Trophies – Overall winners for both Male and Female in: 5km Run, 5km Walk and long courses Run and Walk (10km and Half Marathon)
  • Team Trophy – Teams are those with 2+ members. Overall winning team based upon a team’s average score per event. So, if your team has 4 members. Person 1 got 200 points 2 got 150 points, 3 got 120 and number 4 got 100 points. Total score is 570 point, divide that by 4 and team gets 142.5 points.
  • Age Group Trophies – Kids (4-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11 & 12-13) 5km (under 19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 & 60+) Long Course (under 19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 & 60+) with all having a male and female winner (Only 1st place receives a trophy)
  • Age Group Trophies Points – points are given per event based on number that entered the event i.e. 200 people in 5km 1st place gets 200 points last place gets 1. For the long course. For the first 5 events these are 10km, at the final event in Millwater you are able to compete in either 10km or 21km and points are awarded again as per number of participants for each event. So be aware if 200 people in 10km and 250 in half marathon there is a extra 50 points on offer.
  • The RunNZ team will not disclose numbers per event beforehand to anyone Then each event is added up and MUST complete 4 events to be eligible for the trophies
  • What if I did 5km and 10km events and half marathon during the series –  while this will not affect your Series medal, this will affect your points if you are thinking of trying to win one of the trophies. For the points on display you will be scored for the event you competed in more of or if you did 3x 5km and 3x 10km you will be placed in the longer distance event and not scored from the shorter events, unless requested otherwise.

I could not make one of the races, is there anyway of making this up? – Yes, for the past couple of years we have offered you the chance to do 1 Make Up Race (MKR) if you miss one of the first 5 races (not race 6, as you need to do this race and be there to collect your medals).

Do the current climate with COVID-19 and the Flu hitting so many of us, this year you are allowed to do a maximum of 2 MKR (not race 6). To qualify for a MKR your need to meet the following criteria

  1. Your must be signed up for the full Run Auckland Series (all 6 races)
  2. You must go run the course you missed (courses like Colin Maiden Park are hard to follow, so as long as you go to the site and run the distance you have signed up for that will be fine)
  3. Send end proof to david@runnz.co.nz. This must be done by Monday 27th August. This should include a map of where your ran, plus your full name and Bib Number. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY RECIVED AFTER THIS DATE.
  4. This only counts towards the Series Medal, and you will not receive any Race points towards any trophies

You are responsible for your own safety and enter this event at your own risk. It is important that you read the event rules and follow each of the safety guidelines of the event:

  • All participants must be present at the Event Safety Briefing for each and every race.
  • First Aid is located at the Race Headquarters.
  • No Spectators or supporters are allowed to follow participants at any stage of the event.
  • ALL New Zealand Road Rules Apply.
  • ALL roads are OPEN to normal traffic. There are absolutely NO Road Closures.
  • You must run on the footpath at all times and within the safety cones.
  • Do not cut any corners.
  • Knowing the course is your responsibility, please double check the course map.
  • You must listen to and obey any instructions given by Race Officials.
  • If you are walking or running in a group please do not walk or run more than two abreast.
  • Please be aware of participants passing you from behind and keep to the left.
  • Please seed yourself accordingly at the start.
  • Please ensure you have adequate and suitable clothing, Footwear must be worn, No bare torsos.
  • Please ensure you are physically fit and healthy enough to complete your chosen distance. If you are unsure please seek advice from a medical professional.
  • If you feel unwell or unfit to compete in the event we strongly advice you to withdraw immediately and seek assistance or professional advice.
  • If another participant is in distress immediately offer assistance and inform a Race Official.
  • You may not compete under another persons identity as we need to know exactly who is on course if Medical attention is required.
  • Single Race Entry Transfers for Full Series Entrants are not permitted.
  • Please report any accidents or incidents to a Race Official as soon as possible.
  • All forms of wheeled conveyance including but not limited to wheelchairs, bicycles, inline skates, prams/buggies, skate boards, scooters are not permitted.
  • No Prams, Buggies or Nordic Poles.
  • No pets are allowed to accompany participants on course.
  • Race Numbers must be worn on the front of your top at all times.
  • Timing Responders must be attached to your shoelaces for the entire duration of the event.
  • Timing Responders must be returned in good working condition after each race (for Single Race Entrants) OR after Race 6 (for Full Series Entrants). If you do not return your Timing Responder or return a damaged Timing Responder you will be charged a $20 Replacement Fee.
  • Timing is a service provided by the event organisers but there is no guarantee that your time will be recorded and published in the results.
  • Due to the risk to the individual, the use of any and all portable audio devices, including but not limited to: ipods, mp3, cellphones and walkman devices is discouraged.
  • The walking categories will not be judged and it would be appreciated if all walkers, walk the entire event if in the walker category. No Jogging or Running.
  • All participants under the age of 18 must have the consent of their parent or guardian.

RunNZ would like to update its refund policy or Participant Guarantee going forward. When you sign up for any RunNZ event we want you to be confident that you will receive the best value for money and that you will get a fair deal if for any reason you are not able to attend the event.

The below Guarantee accounts for what you have invested in us (e.g. your entry fee) and what we have invested in you (e.g. event administration, shirts, medals, traffic management) in advance of the event.

If you have signed up to any RunNZ event, we would like to offer the following Participant Guarantee.

  • If for any reason you can no longer participate in the event for personal reasons (i.e. you are injured, you’ve moved). Leading up to your event, you will be eligible to apply for the following refund/credit:
  1. Greater than 3 months before Event Day1 – 100% 12-month RunNZ credit2, or 95% refund.
  2. Between 1 and 3 months before Event Day1 – 75% 12-month RunNZ credit2 or 70% refund.
  3. Between 1 month and 72 hours before Event Day1 50% 12-month credit only2.
  • If the event is postponed due to weather or another unforeseeable or unplanned act, we will automatically transfer your Entry to the new event date. In this instance, there will be no credits or refunds available.
  • If the event is cancelled, you will be eligible to apply for a 12-month RunNZ credit2 or refund (as below).
  1. Series Pass Entrants – you will be eligible to apply for a RunNZ credit2 to the value of 15% of your series pass.
  2. Single Race Entrants – you will be eligible to apply for a RunNZ credit2 to the value of 90% of your entry fee.
  • In the event of cancellation – if the option of taking part in a virtual event is made available and you select to take part in that (i.e. to accrue series points and/or to be eligible for a series medal), you forfeit the right to apply for a credit or refund.
  • You are able to transfer your entry for free to another person3 up to 2 weeks prior to Event Day1 for no cost. Please note that if the person was entitled to a free event shirt as part of your entry, this cannot be guaranteed and will depend on sizes and availability.

1 Event Day = This is the originally planned date of the event (i.e. not a postponement date). For series entrants, it is the originally planned date of the first race of the series.

2RUNNZ credit can be used for any Run New Zealand events.

3Series passes can be transferred to another person, but series entrants cannot transfer individual race entries to another person.

I agree to abide by the rules of the RUN Auckland Series and Half Marathon as listed on the event website www.runauckland.co.nz

I agree to follow the directions of all Event Officials and NZ Police.

Entrants under the age of 18 years old participate with the consent of their parents or legal guardian.

I understand that this event is held in locations where the Road is not always closed to traffic.

I have read and understood the Event Rules and Safety Information for this event (see https://runauckland.co.nz/#participantinfo). I intend to compete at my own risk. I acknowledge that safety precautions undertaken by the organisers are a service to me and are not a guarantee of safety.

I accept that I have the responsibility to carefully read and/or listen to all safety briefings and to immediately seek clarification on anything that is not entirely clear.

As a stakeholder of Athletics New Zealand, Run NZ is committed to the advancement of clean sport that rejects cheating through the use of performance enhancing drugs and methods. Athletics New Zealand has adopted the New Zealand Sports Anti-Doping Rules, and as such all stakeholders of Athletics New Zealand, including Run NZ choose to abide by these rules. I consent to receiving any medical treatment that the event organisers think desirable during or after the event.

By competing I accept all risks necessarily flowing from my participation, which could result in loss of life or permanent injury. Accordingly, I waive all claims against all persons involved with the event directly or indirectly including Event Organisers, Sub Contractors, Local Councils and Sponsors and I hereby indemnify them against liability (including liability for their negligence and/or recklessness and the negligence and/or recklessness of others) for any injury, loss or damage arising out of or connected with my participation in this event. This release and indemnity continues forever and binds my heirs, executors, personal representatives and assigns.

I accept that there is no guarantee that my time will be recorded and published in the results.

I agree to follow any guidelines set out by RunNZ under the ‘COVID_19 Public Health Response (Protection Framework) Order 2021’ and any Ministry of Health or council guidelines on managing a safe environment for all, participants, spectators, staff and locals (see https://runauckland.co.nz/#participantinfo).

I understand that event details may change at any time in the best interests of the event and as the Event Organisers see fit.

I accept that another person cannot race under my name or number due to health and safety requirements.

I agree to receive important email and postal information, including our email newsletter about the RUN Auckland Series in accordance with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007.

I authorise my name, voice or image and any other information on this entry form to be used without payment to me in any broadcast, telecast, advertising promotion or any other way relating to this event. Pursuant to the Privacy Act 1993.

I understand that I am fully responsible for the security of my personal possessions at the event.

I accept that if any my timing chip is lost or misplaced it will cost the owner a $10 fee for a replacement.

RunNZ is currently operating under the ‘COVID_19 Public Health Response (Protection Framework) Order 2021’ and any Ministry of Health or council guidelines on managing a safe environment for all, participants, spectators, staff and locals.

What this means to you currently:

RunNZ have approval to proceed with the event at all levels of the Protection Framework, but our events may look different depending on which level we are in. In general, the following rules are currently in effect.

  1. If you feel ill, are showing any symptoms of COVID-19, are awaiting the results of a COVID test, or have been identified as a close contact – stay at home and do not attend any events.
  2. you do not need to be vaccinated to take part in the series and Vaccine passes are not required at this stage.
  3. While in the village we ask that you practice good COVID controls including practicing physical distancing, wearing a face covering when not running, regularly washing, drying and sanitising your hands, coughing into your elbow and trying not to touch your face.

Race Pack Pick Up for 2023 Series

We will not be sending out race packs via post for the Run Auckland Series and Half Marathon.

Saturday 20th May we will be offering all Series entrants and those signed up for race 1 at Ambury Farm the chance to come pick up your race packs. Our first race is always very busy so if you can attend one of these times it is advised. If you are not able to make either of these times and for all other races, you can just pick these up on the morning of your event. 

This is for those only doing the Full Series and Race 1, for all other single race entries you will just pick them up on the morning of your event.

• Pre-Race Pick up 1 – 9am-11am – Waiatarua Reserve, Remuera (top car park off Abbots Way)

• Pre-Race Pick up 2 – 1pm-3pm – Onepoto Domain, Northcote 

If you cant make ether of these just pick up you pack on race day, but do allow extra time as race 1 will be busy.

We will also hold a Pre Race pack pick up for Race 6 and information regarding this will be posted closer to the event date
